Fall Art Festival

Fall Art Festival

The Scituate Art Festival, October 9-11, was a autumn beauty among being crowed.

The annual art festival in Scituate was among many things, a new adventure for me. I had never gone to this festival before. (To be honest, I have never even heard of it.) But it was a marvel. This festival is held every year during the Columbus Day long weekend. This festival has been held every yeard since 1967 and is said to get better with age.

The whole festival was set next to the reservoir. No, this was not part of the festival but it was an artwork in itself. The reservoir had this kind of dam system, where water skims the surface of the concrete before dropping down to a lower pool. The reservoir extends out and along the horizon of the water was a collage of reds, yellows, greens, and oranges. It was seriously a natural masterpiece.

For the actual festival. Well, we all have our own opinion of art, so, the real opinion is more to the beholder. In my opinion, it was a mixture of beautiful works and works of art that did not impress me. No different than any other art show. There were works that were amazing that could take your breath away and there were some that you could walk by and not realize they were there. This is mainly just the paintings I am referring to.

There was many other works of art. And they were like the painting, either you were amazed or not. Yet, there were many hand crafted art pieces there. I had seen handcrafted walking sticks, flutes, instruments, belts, jewelry, and the list goes on. I really mean it does. Jewelry alone was made from rice paper, glass, rice, hemp, beads, metal, etc.

There was even an apothecary there too. They weren’t carrying anything that i imagined an apothecary to have but still, there were remedies that I have never heard of before. It was intriguing.

Now, festivals serve food, yes I know. The problem with me ”reviewing” the food is that I never ate any at the festival. I honestly walked the whole festival and did not get a thing. But I can say that there was a wide selection of possible foods that could have been purchased.

The festival was very good for the local businesses too. I only walked into one of the stores, but all the stores that I walked by had their door wide open for all the festival goers. A very good way to make business for one weekend.
